Being Lazy in Belize

I made my way down to Belieze with one of my mates from the hostel in Tulum. A few hours on a bus and a couple of boats would get us to the island Caye Caulker. For the first boat ride I opted to ride up top on the bridge with the captain of the 50 person water taxi rather then down in the seating area below. What great views of the islands as we zipped along in the late afternoon. With a customs check in San Pedro and dusk transfer to an even smaller boat we made our way to our destination. Aside from the rather fun moonlite ride on this water taxi I am reminded of my travel buddy Ben's comment reflecting on the other boat passengers, "Oh, and let's not forget the super drunk guy forcing his god damned chicharrones on us." - Ya, random deep fried pork skin on the back of a boat, nice.

Caye Caulker is a popular dive and snorkle island with many visitors completeing their open water dive certification or venturing out on day trips to places like the famous underwater sinkhole, the Great Blue Hole . For me, Caye Caulker was a nice place to be lazy on an island. Lounging around and swimming 'the split', an area where the island is slpit in two... be aware of the crazy current ripping through it that changes direction throughout the day. Sun, drinks, food, on an island with virtualy no vehicles - not bad. Plus, the added bonus of watching the lunar eclipse while lying on a dock by the sea with some fellow travellers - not bad at all.
