A Get-together in Kiel

When Katrin and I had arrived in Kiel from our road trip from Berlin we were reunited with some friends from Australia. Kiel is in northern Germany by the Baltic Sea. Sandra, Jil, Katrin and I were able to hang out together on the first evening before Katrrin left for Hamburg. Jil had an early morning train home the following morning. I spent most of the week in Kiel visiting Sandra (whom I had travelled with on a previous trip in Australia).

We drove up the road to Schilksee one afternoon where we had a nice get-together and dinner with her mother and grandmother who over the next few days were great at trying their english (mostly because my German language skills are virtually non-existent). The rest of the week was pretty laid back and casual with trips into town and a couple evenings out with Sandra's friends.

Road trip to the Baltic Sea!

I met the friend I was visiting in Berlin in Brisbane Australia earlier in the year (before we both headed out on a surf trip to Sydney). Other German friends that we both knew were getting together in Kiel, in the North-West so we decided to take a road trip for a visit. By Canadian standards this 3 1/2 to 4 hour journey is a short trip down the highway but here in Deutschland it's apparently far.

It is on this day that I would venture bravely onto the German Autobahn. The high-speed motorway renowned for having (in most places) no speed limit... in what vehicle dare I whisk speedily over paved accelerating freedom? Perhaps a German engineered high-performance auto mobile such as a BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Volkswagen or Audi? Or, I could do so in a Ford Fiesta!
